Alonso crushes 41st homer, 1st off Scherzer as Orioles stave off elimination vs. Blue Jays

Pete Alonso hit his 41st home run of the season to guide the Baltimore Orioles to a 4-2 win against the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Camden Yards. The victory briefly kept Baltimore alive in the American League Wild Card race. The home run was also Alonso's first career homer off starting pitcher Max Scherzer.

Earlier in the day, Alonso was named the unanimous winner of the 2026 Most Valuable Oriole Award. In his first year under a five-year, $155 million deal, Alonso leads the AL with 110 RBIs and has hit nine home runs across his last 18 appearances.
