The Athletics acquired outfielder Nate Eaton from the Boston Red Sox on Thursday in exchange for Minor League right-handed pitcher Jareth Rayo. The deal represents the first trade of the offseason, completed less than 24 hours after the World Series concluded.
The 29-year-old Eaton played 24 games for Boston in 2026, batting .160 with one home run and six RBIs. Rayo, an 18-year-old pitcher from Nicaragua, posted a 5.50 ERA over 36 innings in the Dominican Summer League. The move is the first trade overseen by new Athletics president of baseball operations Taylor Smith.
