The Red Sox swung another trade on Thursday, dealing a defensive-minded infielder to the Detroit Tigers to clear another 40-man roster spot.

The Boston Red Sox have traded infielder Tsung-Che Cheng to the Detroit Tigers for cash, according to a team source. This marks the club's second trade of the day following a deal that sent outfielder Nate Eaton to the Athletics, with both moves aimed at clearing 40-man roster spots.
Cheng appeared in 14 major league games for Boston while Trevor Story was sidelined, batting .256 with five RBI. Boston now has 36 players on its 40-man roster but must clear three more spots before Monday as seven players return from the 60-day injured list.
