The Chicago Cubs are expected to part ways with veteran starting pitcher Shota Imanaga in free agency, according to MLB insider Patrick Mooney on the North Side Territory podcast. The Cubs reportedly lack the trust required to keep Imanaga in a prominent rotation spot following declining performance and high home run rates.
Imanaga recorded a 35-21 record and a 3.45 ERA over three seasons with Chicago after signing on a qualifying offer. The Cubs are anticipated to let the 33-year-old walk as a free agent to reinvest salary into new top-tier pitching options.
