According to one Chicago Cubs insider, there's little chance Jed Hoyer explores a reunion with left-hander Shota Imanaga in free agency.

Chicago Cubs beat writer Patrick Mooney indicated on the North Sider Territory podcast that the Cubs and left-handed pitcher Shota Imanaga are likely to part ways this winter. Cubbies Crib's Jake Misener highlighted that the organization appears unlikely to offer the 32-year-old starter a new multi-year contract.
Imanaga struggled with home runs in 2026, surrendering 35 long balls, the second-most in Major League Baseball, despite posting a 2.25 ERA across five September starts. Across three seasons in Chicago, the southpaw recorded a 3.45 ERA and 1.038 WHIP over nearly 500 innings.
