The Chicago Cubs have a need in the outfield this offseason, but they should ignore the idea of a Jarren Duran trade.

Writer Jordan Campbell argues that the Chicago Cubs should avoid trading for Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran this offseason despite having a need in their outfield. Duran struggled severely during the 2026 season, batting .207/.266/.361 with 20 home runs and a 69 wRC+ as Boston managed an outfield roster crunch.
Campbell believes the Cubs would be downgraded offensively and defensively by replacing Ian Happ with Duran, who is projected to earn $11.1 million in arbitration. The writer instead recommends that Chicago re-sign Happ on a discounted contract or extend a qualifying offer rather than taking on Duran's rising salary.
