Jacob Webb has a club option for 2027 and the Chicago Cubs won't have to think that hard about picking it up despite his late-season struggles.

Ryan O'Rourke of Cubbies Crib argues that the Chicago Cubs should easily exercise their $2.5 million club option on reliever Jacob Webb for the 2027 season. Despite a difficult final stretch where he recorded a 9.90 ERA over his last 10 innings, Webb posted an overall 3.36 ERA across a career-high 67 innings in 2026.
O'Rourke suggests Webb's late-season struggles stemmed from overusage after injuries pushed him into the closer role under manager Craig Counsell. The writer believes that retaining Webb at an affordable salary for middle relief would provide valuable bullpen depth and high-leverage flexibility for Jed Hoyer's roster.
