The Cincinnati Reds have officially parted ways with pitching coach Derek Johnson. Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall confirmed the departure on Thursday, stating that the organization wishes Johnson and his family the best and that an immediate search for his replacement will begin.
Johnson, 55, had taken a personal leave of absence in June and did not return to the club. He originally joined Cincinnati ahead of the 2019 season following three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, and he was promoted to director of pitching prior to 2022 while remaining pitching coach.
