“I didn’t know that before,” he said. “I didn’t know that until the situation.”

Former Cleveland Guardians catcher Bo Naylor testified Thursday in New York that he was unaware gamblers could wager on individual pitches until criminal charges emerged against his former teammates. Naylor appeared as a defense witness in the federal sports betting trial of pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz. Prosecutors accuse the duo of taking bribes to leak pitch information, which allegedly helped gamblers win at least $460,000.
During cross-examination, Naylor explained pregame strategy and admitted pitchers retain final authority over pitch selection by waving off calls. Both Clase and Ortiz have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges and are on unpaid leave from the Guardians.
