Free Agent Fits for the Guardians

Quincy Wheeler evaluates potential free-agent targets for the Cleveland Guardians, drawing from Ben Clemens' top 50 free agents projection on FanGraphs. Despite the organization's history of limited spending in free agency, Wheeler examines nine realistic possibilities primarily situated in the lower third of the rankings, focusing on short-term pitching additions and modest offensive upgrades.

Among the highlighted options, Wheeler expresses the strongest interest in right-handed pitcher Nick Martinez and reliever Evan Phillips. Other suggested targets include starters Brandon Woodruff, David Peterson, Foster Griffin, and Tyler Mahle, relievers JoJo Romero and Alex Vesia, and first baseman Ty France, mostly envisioned on potential one- or two-year free-agent contracts.
