At the midway point of last season, Cade Smith was a setup man in the Cleveland Guardians bullpen. Now, he has become a postseason star and is arguably the best closer in the majors. It is quite a rapid rise…

Cleveland Guardians closer Cade Smith has emerged as a key postseason performer, allowing only one earned run over 7.2 innings across six playoff appearances. Smith closed out Cleveland's 7-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the ALCS on Monday, throwing a perfect ninth inning on just six pitches.
Manager Stephen Vogt has deployed Smith in various late-game situations throughout the postseason, regardless of whether a save opportunity exists. Setup man Hunter Gaddis has also pitched in all six postseason games without allowing a run in 5.1 innings as Cleveland advances through October.
