Reds’ latest coaching poach shows how well-respected Guardians pitching factory is

Away Back Gone highlights the Cincinnati Reds hiring Cleveland Guardians assistant pitching coach Joe Torres as their new pitching coach. Former Cleveland manager Terry Francona named Torres to the position on Wednesday, making him the fourth Cleveland pitching coach to be hired away by another Major League Baseball organization since 2019.

The writer argues that the hiring underscores the respect across baseball for Cleveland's pitching development system. In Cincinnati, Torres joins a staff with several former Cleveland personnel, where he will guide a young rotation that includes Chase Burns, Andrew Abbott, and Nick Lodolo, though Hunter Greene will miss the 2027 season following Tommy John surgery.
