The Detroit Tigers have parted ways with 33-year-old relief pitcher Tanner Rainey, who officially elected free agency following the conclusion of the 2026 season. Rainey's departure comes as Detroit begins their offseason after missing the playoffs with a 76-86 record and a fourth-place finish in the American League Central.
Rainey appeared in six MLB games for the Tigers in 2026, posting a 3.86 ERA before being designated for assignment in late August. He cleared waivers and finished the campaign with Triple-A Toledo, where he recorded a 5-4 record and a 3.40 ERA in the minors.
