The Story in 60 Seconds

Bo Bichette will remain with the New York Mets for the 2027 season after bypassing his first opportunity to opt out of his three-year contract. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the two-time All-Star infielder will lock in a $42 million salary for next season. Bichette retains the ability to opt out after 2027 or trigger another $42 million player option for 2028.

The decision was widely expected following a difficult first campaign in Queens for Bichette. Moving to third base, he posted a .260/.312/.390 batting line with 18 home runs in 696 plate appearances, earning mixed reviews defensively and producing around one to two wins above replacement across major analytical models.
