PHILADELPHIA -- Alex Cora has once again declined to be the Phillies’ manager. Will they turn again to Don Mattingly? USA Today first reported late Tuesday night that Cora sometime in the past few days had declined president of baseball…

Alex Cora has reportedly declined overtures from Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski to become the team's next manager. According to USA Today, Cora rejected the approach in recent days, choosing not to manage in 2027. Dombrowski previously offered Cora the position in April after dismissing former manager Rob Thomson following a 9-19 start, but Cora declined at that time as well.
Following Cora's initial refusal in April, Don Mattingly took over as interim manager and guided Philadelphia to the fourth-best record in baseball for the remainder of the regular season. Although reports indicated the Phillies might part ways with Mattingly, Cora's latest rejection leaves the team to decide whether to retain Mattingly permanently or begin an entirely new managerial search.
