Alex Cora has informed Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski that he will sit out the 2027 season, declining an opportunity to manage the club. This marks the second time in 2026 that Cora passed on managing Philadelphia, citing family time and an upcoming marriage as central factors in his decision to remain away from the dugout.
The Phillies are seeking a permanent manager after firing Rob Thomson in April. Interim manager Don Mattingly guided the club to an 88-74 record and a wild-card berth before falling to the Atlanta Braves in the postseason. Mattingly remains under contract through 2027 as bench coach and has expressed interest in the permanent managerial role.
