The San Diego Padres defeated the Chicago Cubs 8-0 in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series on Tuesday night at Petco Park. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado each hit first-inning home runs off Cubs starter Matthew Boyd, giving San Diego an early offensive spark.
Michael King led the Padres on the mound, carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Nico Hoerner broke it up with a single. King finished with seven innings pitched, allowing only one hit to put the Padres one win away from advancing to the NLDS.
