The Mariners finally got to see more of what Emerson Hancock's capable of, but there's a balance between optimism and still needing to see more from the righty.

Paul Taylor of Sodo Mojo writes that Emerson Hancock's 2026 breakout with the Seattle Mariners provides reasons for optimism but also raises concerns about possible future regression. Hancock led the rotation with a career-best 3.57 ERA across 25 starts and recorded a 2.7 bWAR before an August left abductor strain ended his season.
However, Taylor notes that advanced metrics, including a Stuff+ rating of 92 and higher expected statistics compared to actual results, indicate Hancock must continue improving to solidify his long-term rotation role.
