The Texas Rangers are asking Sebastian Walcott to do something different, and if it sticks, it could mark the end of Evan Carter's time in the starting lineup.

The Texas Rangers are having top prospect Sebastian Walcott take outfield drills in the Arizona Fall League, according to Stephen Parello of Nolan Writin'. Parello argues that moving the 20-year-old shortstop to center field would severely threaten Evan Carter's starting role heading into the future.
While Carter was named a Gold Glove finalist in 2026, he struggled offensively with a .194 batting average. Parello suggests that if Walcott successfully transitions to center field, Carter's best-case scenario would likely be serving as a fourth outfielder.
