A former Yankees player remains a free agent 460 days after his last MLB game, extending a lengthy absence from the major leagues.

Former New York Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo remains an unsigned free agent 460 days after his last Major League Baseball appearance. The 30-year-old last played in the majors on July 1, 2025, for the Atlanta Braves before being released shortly after. Despite playing in the 2024 World Series for New York, he has not secured another contract.
Verdugo signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres in March 2026, but he was released on May 11 after a shoulder injury required season-ending surgery. Reports indicate an estimated recovery return around February 2027, which could leave nearly two years between his regular-season appearances.
