About NASCAR

NASCAR is the biggest stock car racing series in the United States. Its top level, the NASCAR Cup Series, races mainly on oval tracks, with some road courses and street circuits.

The season starts with the Daytona 500 in February and ends with a 10-race championship called The Chase.

What is the Daytona 500?

NASCAR's most famous race, run over 500 miles at Daytona International Speedway in Florida. It opens the Cup Series season in February.

How many races are in the NASCAR Cup Series?

there are 36 points races, 26 in the regular season followed by 10 in The Chase.

How does The Chase work?

from 2026, the top 16 drivers in the points standings after 26 races qualify for The Chase. There are no eliminations. Points are reset, with the regular-season leader given a head start, and whoever has the most points after the final race is champion.

How are NASCAR points awarded?

from 2026, a race win is worth 55 points. Drivers also score points for every finishing position. Races are split into stages, and the top 10 at the end of the first two stages earn bonus points.

What is the NASCAR Cup Series?
