DALLAS — Daniel Gafford will still set ball screens in Dallas Mavericks coach Dusty May’s offense this season, but more of his work is going to come on flashes and dribble handoffs, the center said Friday morning before the preseason…
Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford detailed his expanded offensive role under head coach Dusty May ahead of Friday's preseason finale against the Atlanta Hawks. Gafford explained that while he will continue setting ball screens, he is now serving as an offensive trigger involving more flashes, dribble handoffs, and continuous multi-side actions designed to work throughout the shot clock.
The system has also encouraged Gafford to expand his shooting range, including making a 3-pointer during a preseason game against the Houston Rockets in Macao. Mavericks coach Dusty May noted that Gafford will continue shooting rhythm threes as long as he earns the right, while the team prepares for its regular-season opener on October 21 against Houston.
