Jalen Duren has signed a five-year, $200 million contract extension with the Detroit Pistons just hours ahead of the deadline. The breakthrough occurred after Detroit agreed to remove a proposed verbal weight clause from their offer, which had previously caught the 22-year-old All-Star center off guard and complicated negotiations following an initial standoff over a potential maximum deal.
The Pistons had reportedly proposed the clause, including monthly weight check-ins, following concerns over Duren's decreased postseason production. Despite the tense front-office negotiations, head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and teammate Cade Cunningham publicly supported Duren, who averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game during the regular season.
