Jaden McDaniels is the first player to get extended with three seasons remaining on a non-max contract. As such, the Timberwolves clearly believe in him.
Jaden McDaniels has agreed to a one-year, $40 million contract extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves. With this agreement, McDaniels became the first player in NBA history to secure a contract extension while having three fully guaranteed seasons remaining on a non-max deal. He was previously under contract through 2029 before adding the additional season.
Writer Eamon Cassels argues that the move reflects Minnesota's enduring confidence in McDaniels, noting previous decisions by president of basketball operations Tim Connelly to keep him out of major trade talks. McDaniels averaged 14.8 points per game last season while serving as a key two-way contributor for the franchise.
