Basket Zaragoza are threatening over Aday Mara’s move to the Oklahoma City Thunder, claiming they retain the Spanish centre’s playing rights and seeking a financial settlement.
Spanish club Basket Zaragoza is attempting to dispute Aday Mara's move to the Oklahoma City Thunder, claiming they retain his playing rights and seeking approximately $700,000 in compensation. However, the Thunder stated that NBA advice confirms no international clearance is required because the 21-year-old center spent the last three seasons playing college basketball in the United States.
Mara was selected 12th overall in the 2026 NBA Draft following collegiate stints at UCLA and Michigan. Although Zaragoza claims Mara remains under contract through 2026-27, the Thunder are unwilling to pay the fee, leaving the dispute unresolved ahead of the NBA regular season.
