The Orlando Magic face a lot of uncertainty this season. Anthony Black's extension is the first domino to fall as the Magic stay patient planning their future.

The Orlando Magic face a looming October 19 deadline to finalize a rookie contract extension with guard Anthony Black. However, reporters Marc Stein and Jake Fischer report that an agreement appears unlikely, with the two sides yet to engage in meaningful dialogue. Black averaged 15.0 points per game last season during a breakout campaign, but the franchise's tight financial constraints and proximity to the NBA luxury tax aprons are contributing to a stalemate.
Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman noted the team is operating in tighter quarters financially, and Orlando Magic Daily suggests both sides may allow Black to enter restricted free agency next summer. The Magic already project $192.7 million in guaranteed salary for 2028 across eight players. Following Brandin Podziemski's five-year, $110 million extension with the Golden State Warriors, Black's potential market value could prove challenging for Orlando to accommodate long-term.
