Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff expressed excitement after center Jalen Duren signed a five-year, $200 million contract extension. Following an offseason stalemate, Duren agreed to the deal on Thursday night. Bickerstaff emphasized on Friday that the team always expected Duren to return, praising the All-Star big man as an essential piece for the franchise moving forward alongside guard Cade Cunningham.
The 22-year-old center averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds last season, earning All-Star and All-NBA honors despite postseason struggles. To support Duren, the Pistons altered their frontcourt by losing Tobias Harris in free agency, trading Isaiah Stewart, and acquiring shooters John Collins, Taurean Prince, and Isaiah Joe to enhance spacing.
