As professional athletes, many NBA players are known to play through pain and injury for the sake of winning, despite how detrimental it could be in the long-term.
Washington Wizards guard Bub Carrington opened up about his diagnosis with obsessive-compulsive disorder and its impact on his career and daily life. Carrington explained that the disorder helps him remain organized and handle the demanding scheduling of the NBA. He also noted that channeling his compulsions into strict training routines, such as requiring himself to make specific shot quotas before leaving workouts, drives his development as a player.
Carrington acknowledged the difficulties of managing his condition during challenging stretches, including coping with losing games after playing in winning environments in college. To stay grounded when dealing with frustration, the 21-year-old guard credited his family, religion, and sense of purpose. Fadeaway World also noted Carrington averaged 10.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game last season.
