Josh Simmons all of the sudden feeling far less important for Chiefs 2026 offense

The Kansas City Chiefs' sense of urgency regarding offensive tackle Josh Simmons' return has diminished significantly early in the 2026 season. Simmons has not played or fully practiced through the team's first two games following an injury-plagued rookie season in 2025. In his place, undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson has started at left tackle as the Chiefs opened the season with a 2-0 record.

Benson, a former Indiana Hoosier, has not surrendered a sack across his first two NFL starts protecting Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs have tailored game plans around Benson's play while reportedly targeting a Week 6 return for Simmons to reclaim the blindside tackle spot.
