The Story in 60 Seconds

The Wyandotte County Unified Government board voted unanimously on Thursday to pass an ordinance retaining its approval powers regarding the Kansas City Chiefs' stadium sales tax and revenue (STAR) bond. An earlier proposal on the agenda would have eliminated safeguards established earlier this year, but commissioners opted to keep local oversight intact rather than accepting state stipulations.

The retained safeguards allow the Unified Government to approve potential boundary changes and evaluate local funding impacts. Additionally, Mayor Christal Watson was appointed to the Kansas Sports Facilities Authority, which oversees the planned Kansas City stadium and an Olathe practice facility.
