The Miami Dolphins have not been satisfied with their special teams this year, and the first of what could be several changes was just made.

The Miami Dolphins have released kicker Riley Patterson after early-season struggles and signed Zane Gonzalez, who previously spent time with the team in training camp. Miami made the roster move following kickoff execution issues against the Bengals, including allowing an 81-yard return. Patterson matched his entire 2025 missed field goal total through the opening three games of the season.
Gonzalez, a seven-year NFL veteran who played for the Falcons last season, rejoins Miami as his sixth career team. The Dolphins also reportedly held a workout with former Ravens kicker Justin Tucker before deciding to sign Gonzalez.
