J.J. McCarthy is now the Giants' starting quarterback.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh has benched quarterback Jameis Winston and named J.J. McCarthy the new starter ahead of Sunday's game against the Houston Texans. The move comes as the 3-2-1 Giants look to maintain their lead in the NFC East following a season-ending knee injury to starter Jaxson Dart. McCarthy, who was acquired via trade on September 28, will make his first start for New York after previously appearing in relief against Washington and New Orleans.
Teammates noted that McCarthy's chemistry with starting receivers Malachi Fields, Darnell Mooney, and Malik Nabers remains a work in progress. While McCarthy completed 11 of 21 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the fourth quarter of a 34-27 loss to the Saints, players and coaches hope his mobility can revitalize the offense despite entering Houston as 10.5-point underdogs.
