Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said Monday the Avalanche have granted Hakstol permission to speak with Arizona State about the position and a decision could come later this week.

Arizona State is in discussions with Dave Hakstol to serve as interim hockey coach while an investigation continues into a workout incident. Hakstol, currently an assistant coach with the Colorado Avalanche, was granted permission by Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar to speak with the university, with a decision expected later this week.
The school placed head coach Greg Powers on administrative leave following the collapse of 21-year-old player Matthew Mayich from external heat stroke. Hakstol previously served as head coach for the Philadelphia Flyers and Seattle Kraken, and led the University of North Dakota for 15 seasons.
