Former Boston Bruins forward Ryan Spooner has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey at age 34. Slovakian club HK Dukla Trencin announced the news on Wednesday after Spooner decided to conclude his playing career. Spooner expressed gratitude to the team and supporters, acknowledging that while leaving the sport was a difficult decision, he felt it was the right time to step away.
Originally drafted by Boston in the second round in 2010, Spooner recorded 41 goals and 101 assists across 253 games during six seasons with the Bruins. Following stints with the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, and Vancouver Canucks, he spent the latter part of his career playing in Switzerland, the KHL, and Slovakia.
