Bruins’ Matthew Poitras placed on injured reserve with lower-body injury

The Boston Bruins announced on Sunday that forward Matthew Poitras will begin the 2026-27 season on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury. Poitras suffered the injury the previous Tuesday, causing him to miss Boston's final three preseason games. The 22-year-old forward could potentially miss the team's first four regular-season games, beginning with Tuesday night's opener against the New York Rangers.

Bruins head coach Marco Sturm expressed optimism about Poitras returning soon, noting that the forward feels better each day. Earlier in the month, Poitras signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with an $850,000 NHL cap hit after recording 44 points in the AHL with the Providence Bruins last season.
