Rangers make curious decision on former Bruins first-round bust Urho Vaakanainen

The New York Rangers placed defenseman Urho Vaakanainen on waivers on Tuesday alongside several other players ahead of the upcoming season. The 27-year-old was originally drafted 18th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Vaakanainen has appeared in 80 games over the last two seasons for the Rangers, recording two goals and 19 assists. Over his NHL career spanning 221 games, he has accumulated 46 points after previously being traded by Boston to the Anaheim Ducks in 2022.
