Hurricanes Want Specifically Huge Haul for Alexander Nikishin

The Carolina Hurricanes are seeking a substantial return for restricted free agent defenseman Alexander Nikishin, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman. Carolina reportedly wants an asset package comparable to two first-round draft picks or equivalent talent. Contract negotiations remain difficult, as Nikishin is believed to be targeting a five-year contract worth around $9 million per season following a recent high-profile extension for Zeev Buium.

A previous trade agreement between the Hurricanes and the New York Rangers collapsed after New York failed to agree on contract terms with Nikishin. Several other teams have expressed interest in acquiring the defenseman, who recorded 33 points during his first full NHL campaign and previously won a Stanley Cup with Carolina.
