Josh Manson's eight-week absence creates a significant hole on Colorado's blue line, but the timing is especially unfortunate after the Avalanche's new Brent Burns-Sam Malinski pairing showed early promise against New Jersey.

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Josh Manson is expected to miss eight weeks due to an ankle injury sustained against the New Jersey Devils. Manson was injured late in the first period of Colorado's 5-2 victory on Wednesday and required assistance off the ice. The setback forces head coach Jared Bednar to restructure his defensive pairings just after an experimental pairing of Brent Burns and Sam Malinski showed early promise.
With Manson sidelined, seventh defenseman Noah Juulsen is set to step into regular minutes. The Avalanche may explore external depth options via the waiver wire or call up a defenseman from the AHL's Colorado Eagles. Potential call-up candidates from the minor league affiliate include Gustav Stjernberg, Keaton Middleton, and Alex Gagne.
