Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson reportedly prefers a trade away from the team amid an ongoing contract stalemate, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Edvinsson attended training camp without a contract while seeking a long-term extension, but Detroit management has maintained its preference for a short-term bridge deal.
The Red Wings face a deadline of December 1 to either reach a contract agreement or complete a sign-and-trade deal, or Edvinsson will be ineligible to play during the 2026-27 season. The standoff follows an offseason of turmoil in Detroit, which previously included a trade request from Dylan Larkin and the removal of former general manager Steve Yzerman.
