The Washington Capitals rallied from behind to secure a 4-3 victory over the Florida Panthers despite Tom Wilson receiving a major penalty and game ejection. Florida built a 2-1 lead in the first period behind two Brady Tkachuk goals, capitalizing on an extended power play after Wilson's hit on Sandis Vilmanis knocked the Panthers forward headfirst into the boards. Vilmanis did not return to the game.
Washington responded with goals from Jack St. Ivany, Alex Tuch, Aliaksei Protas, and Pierre-Luc Dubois to take control of the contest. St. Ivany scored his first career NHL goal past Akira Schmid, while Dubois registered a goal and an assist. Sam Bennett scored for Florida with under a minute remaining, but the Capitals held on for the win.
