The Tkachuk brothers ignited an early surge, but defensive lapses and Logan Thompson’s stellar goaltending allowed the Capitals to rally and stifle Florida’s late-game comeback attempt.

The Florida Panthers opened their three-game road trip with a 4-3 defeat against the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena on Saturday afternoon. Brady Tkachuk scored two first-period goals, both assisted by his brother Matthew, to give Florida an early 2-1 lead. However, Washington fought back behind goals from Alex Tuch, Aliaksei Protas, and Pierre-Luc Dubois.
Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson anchored the victory by turning aside 27 shots, including six stops against high-danger scoring chances across the final two periods. Despite a late tally from Sam Bennett with under a minute remaining, Florida could not find an equalizer against Washington's defense.
