With Jacob Markstrom sidelined by a practice injury, Florida turns to towering prospect Cooper Black to fortify the crease during a crucial four-game road swing.

The Florida Panthers have recalled goaltender Cooper Black from the AHL's Charlotte Checkers after starter Jacob Markstrom suffered an injury in practice. Head coach Paul Maurice stated that Markstrom is expected to miss 10 to 14 days after being struck by a puck in an awkward spot on Monday. Black practiced with Florida on Tuesday morning and is poised to make his NHL debut during the team's upcoming four-game road trip.
Florida's road swing starts with back-to-back games against Ottawa and Pittsburgh before traveling to Chicago and Winnipeg. The 25-year-old, 6-foot-8 netminder posted a 2-1-0 record and a .919 save percentage across three games with Charlotte this season. Alongside Black, the Panthers also recently recalled forwards Cole Reinhardt and Cole Schwindt from the AHL while sending Sam Lafferty down.
