Florida Panthers goaltender Jacob Markstrom is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 14 days after suffering an injury in practice, head coach Paul Maurice announced Tuesday. In response to Markstrom's absence, the Panthers recalled 25-year-old goaltender Cooper Black from the American Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers to serve as the backup behind Akira Schmid.
Markstrom, 36, has recorded a 3-1-1 record alongside a 2.21 goals-against average and one shutout across six games this season. The veteran netminder joined Florida on June 30 as part of a five-player trade with the New Jersey Devils that also brought forward Angus Crookshank to the team.
