The Story in 60 Seconds

Florida Panthers starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom is sidelined for the next 10 to 14 days after being struck by a puck during practice on Monday. In response, head coach Paul Maurice announced the team recalled 6-foot-8 goaltender Cooper Black from the AHL's Charlotte Checkers. Back-up Akira Schmid is expected to handle the bulk of starts as the Panthers embark on a four-game road trip beginning against the Ottawa Senators.

Should the 25-year-old undrafted Black make an appearance against Ottawa or Pittsburgh, he will stand as the tallest goaltender in NHL history. Black logged a 25-13-4 record with a .919 save percentage for Charlotte last season and held a 2-1 record this year before receiving his first call-up.
