The return of a healthy Aleksander Barkov was supposed to be one of the biggest factors in the Florida Panthers being a top Stanley Cup contender for the 2026-27 NHL season.
Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov suffered a left knee injury during the team's season-opener and was reportedly placed on the long-term injured list on Saturday. The move guarantees Barkov will miss at least 10 games as the Panthers await official medical results regarding the severity of the injury. However, ESPN's Emily Kaplan reported there is optimism the injury is not season-ending.
Barkov previously missed the entire 2025-26 NHL season due to a torn ACL in his right knee. While Florida bolstered its roster during the offseason by acquiring forward Brady Tkachuk and goaltender Jacob Markstrom, Barkov's health remains vital to the team's Stanley Cup aspirations.
