The Carolina Hurricanes haven't been able to find a deal that works to move Alexander Nikishin, as well as him finding the right number on a new contract.

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Alexander Nikishin has hired a new agent to help facilitate a permanent trade and contract extension. According to NHL Network insider Elliotte Friedman, Nikishin previously turned down a contract offer from Carolina and declined a deal with the New York Rangers after the two teams had reached a tentative trade agreement.
Carolina currently holds total leverage because Nikishin is not eligible for arbitration or an offer sheet. The Hurricanes are reportedly seeking a trade return equivalent to two first-round picks and may also explore using the situation to pursue Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.
