The Montreal Canadiens surrendered a 2-0 advantage to lose 5-2 against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night. Nick Suzuki and Alex Newhook scored to give Montreal an early lead, but Nashville responded with five unanswered goals. Alex Kerfoot and Matthew Wood tied the game in the second period, followed by Ryan O'Reilly's late power-play game-winner and two empty-net goals from David Edstrom.
Goaltender Juuse Saros kept Nashville in contention despite the Predators being outshot 34-20 by Montreal. Costly defensive breakdowns and penalties plagued the Canadiens, including Mike Matheson's late infraction leading to O'Reilly's deciding goal past Jacob Fowler.
