The New York Islanders secured a dominant 6-0 shutout victory against the New Jersey Devils in their home opener at UBS Arena on Saturday. Goaltender Ilya Sorokin stopped all 37 shots to record his 30th career shutout, while the team rebounded from a season-opening loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Six different players scored for the Islanders, including Simon Holmstrom, Brayden Schenn, Bo Horvat, Ondrej Palat, Casey Cizikas, and Victor Eklund, who tallied his first career NHL goal on his 20th birthday. Head coach Pete DeBoer praised the performance as the Islanders also successfully killed all five Devils power plays.
