New York Islanders rookie Victor Eklund celebrated his 20th birthday by scoring his first NHL goal and recording his first multi-point game in a 6-0 shutout victory over the New Jersey Devils at UBS Arena. After the home opener, the home crowd serenaded the rookie with a rendition of "Happy Birthday."
Eklund assisted on a second-period goal by Brayden Schenn before scoring from the low slot off a pass from Cal Ritchie in the third period. The performance made Eklund the first Islander to score on his 20th birthday since Duane Sutter in 1980.
