The New York Islanders defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-0 in their home opener on Saturday night. Goaltender Ilya Sorokin stopped all 37 shots to earn the shutout, while Simon Holmstrom, Brayden Schenn, and Bo Horvat scored during a nine-minute burst in the second period.
Victor Eklund scored his first NHL goal in the third period, alongside goals from Ondrej Palat and Casey Cizikas. Matthew Schaefer contributed two assists for the Islanders, while Devils goaltender Nico Daws finished with 26 saves as New Jersey fell to 1-1 on the season.
